As of December 2019, China’s population made up 18.5% of the world’s population, and India followed close behind at 17.85%. By 2024, India is expected to have the largest population in the world. The United States came in a distant third at 4.29%. Other countries that round out the top 10 include Indonesia, Brazil, Pakistan, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Russia, and Mexico. Nigeria has the world’s fastest-growing population and is expected to have more people than the U.S. by 2024. Most Populated Countries. Countries With More Women Than Men. While there are slightly more men in the world than women, those numbers aren’t true for some countries. Women outnumber men in approximately 125 nations. As of 2017, the average global birth rate was 2.5 babies per female, but there is quite a disparity between the continents.
